Episode #74: All Saints Day

11/02/2009 02:53:00 AM

1st November is All Saints Day, celebrated in Poland and Catholics around the world for centuries. It's a major religious event in Poland, also known as Day of the Dead. Shops and streets nearby will be closed, and many bus rerouted as many people will visit their loved one's grave. People here will travel all the way to the cemeteries to clean the grave, light up candles and pray for their loved ones. Candles and flowers were placed there.. some were even arranged and put in a very beautiful way.

Darwis and me went together with Kaylin, a very nice and influential friend I got to know here. We followed her around as she explained some of a very well-known Polish ppl who have passed away as many candles were lit at their graves. John Mark and Kaylin were taking amazing photos before they spend time bringing us around and of course all of us captured some beautiful and amazing photos when we were there. =)

diff. types and colours of candles really bring totally diff. effects. Like the first one have ring patterns, so when it's lit, the effect is beautiful.

The Catholic Church outside the cemetry

behind the catholic church, its a link to the Catholic cemetry. On the walls are the memorials of soldiers and warriors of war. Below the cross there's actually a glass box with a skull inside that represents those who have passed away from war. Many candles are light up for them, some maybe from family and relatives, some maybe from people who prays for their warriors and heroes. =)

there's a word I think is "muzykalny", music, maybe a musician or artist.
So many candles are light up, especially for influential ppl, actress, warriors, etc..

It's so cold out there when we walked around, but looking around and seeing ppl spending time praying for their loved ones is really awesome. Walking around one of the largest cemetries in Warsaw is really a great experience for me.
